Harris & Mendieta

Allyna Harris & Peter Mendieta have been performing together since 1983. After solving the major challenge of making an acoustic guitar match the volume of a grand piano they began to write their own music, a blend of folk, classical, jazz and world music influences that evolved into a sound all their own. Allyn and PeterTheir first album, Cycles came out on vinyl in 1985. This was followed by several other recordings, notably Pools of Light and Sea of Green which received rave reviews from critics and fans alike. Their new album, Live at the Haskell is a collection of old and new music performed on June 15, 2002 at the historic Haskell Opera House on the Canada/U.S. border.

Harris & Mendieta recordings and concerts feature their original music, at times lovely and langourous, at times zany and hilarious. Their compositions have been inspired by travel, nature, poetry, humour, dreams and painting. Their favorite venues are small halls with a grand piano and good acoustics. One of the most memorable concerts they ever played was on a Steinway grand in a barn in the Ontario countryside!

Harris & Mendieta create a down to earth rapport with their audiences, telling stories and inviting fans to meet and speak with them following a performance. Audiences leave feeling inspired and happy - they've enjoyed themselves!
